PROFESSOR MACDONALD APPOINTED VICE CHAIR OF UWS COURT

UNIVERSITY of the West of Scotland (UWS) has announced the appointment of Professor Caroline MacDonald as its new Vice Chair of Court, the governing body of the University.
Professor MacDonald will take up this post in January following the retirement of Graham Peterkin, who has served as Vice Chair for over two years.
Professor MacDonald has extremely close links with UWS and was Assistant Principal (Research & Commercialisation) at the University from 1997 to 2004. During her time at the University, Caroline had a specific responsibility for developing and implementing the research and commercialisation strategies of the University. This involved raising the profile of research and the engagement of staff in research and enterprise activities.
Caroline was Pro Vice Chancellor at Glasgow Caledonian University from 2004 until 2009, before becoming Deputy Vice Chancellor of Teesside University, a post she held until her retiral in 2014.
Commenting on the appointment Caroline, who is an Emeritus Professor at Teesside University, said: “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed Vice Chair of the University’s Court. I have long- standing links with UWS and I am delighted to be taking up this post.
“It is a particularly exciting time in the development of the University and I hope to play my part in helping the University to continue to go from strength to strength.”
Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS, said: “The appointment of Caroline to the post of Vice Chairman of Court is great news for the University. Caroline has made a significant contribution to the development of UWS not just as a Court member but also in her former senior management post at the University. Caroline’s wealth of knowledge and experience will be invaluable in this role which is key to the continued success of UWS.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Graham Peterkin for his significant contribution as outgoing Vice Chairman. He worked tirelessly throughout his time on Court and has been a hugely important ambassador of UWS.”
