Queen of the South 2, Partick Thistle 1: Match Report

The first five minutes looked promising for Queens when Paul Burns took a knock. Queens continued to dominate. Paddy Boyle (Partick) took a dive in the box after 10 minutes; the referee gave him a good talking to.
Partick seemed to pick up their game at this point and a shot by number 10 Kris Doolan was wide over the bar, Queens kept breaking when Willie Mclaren, Queens, seemed to be half a yard on side yet a bad decision from the linesman who ruled him off side.
Partick’s captain, Alan Archibald, was substituted for an injury after 20 minutes. Another Partick player took a dive in the box; number 9, Liam Buchanan, and was duly booked. Partick’s battling proved successful after a bad pass by Queens’ Ryan McGuffie, from which the ball fell to a Partick player number 7 Iain Flannigan who scored the opener. Queens ended the half looking dejected.
After the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half a yellow card was given to both number 2 Paul Paton, Partick, and number 4 Stephen McKenna, Queens, for a scuffle by both players. Stephen McKenna clearly stood on Paul Paton. A sub for Queens number 15 David Weatherston saw Willie Mclaren coming off having played a pretty poor game.
Queens kept the pressure on for a while but kept losing the ball in mid field. The crowd were starting to get impatient and on the manager’s back. Queens were not playing good football at all. Completely against the run of play, a goal by Allan Johnston at the half-hour mark of the second half made it 1-1. Keen took a yellow card after 35 minutes. A stupid mistake was made by Ryan McGuffie which gifted Partick a corner, which luckily for him came to nothing.
The last 5 minutes of the game, both teams deserved a share of the points and just as we were looking for a draw at the end of the game Rocco Quinn had the ball passed to him and shot from 20 yards. The keeper had no chance and completely against the run of play Queens turned it round to a 2-1 victory.
Kenny Brannigan looked relieved as the whistle blew and was the last person off the pitch.
Man of the Match, well deserved, was Craig Reid as he seemed to hold the defence well and made very little errors.
