The Division Two visitors threatened when Kevin Smith fired in a shot from close range that forced Stephen Grindlay into making a reaction save.
Grindlay also denied Nicky Clark before the Sons’ James Creaney had an effort parried by Queens keeper Lee Robinson.
The breakthrough came 21 minutes from the end when Clark headed Daniel Carmichael’s cross into the net.
