Queens beat Dumbarton

Queen of the South beat Dumbarton 3-0 this afternoon. Queens had most of the possession in the early exchanges  without creating any clear  cut  chances. They had  a couple of cut backs that  failed to materialise into anything. Indeed Dumbarton should have  taken the lead  as their  attacker  was allowed to stand on his own inside the box, luckily  for  Queens his shot went wide. Queens  took  the lead just  after the half  hour mark when Lee Mair handled the ball inside the box. Little bit  lucky decision as Derek  Lyle  pushed Mark McLaughlin in the  build up to the penalty decision. Penalty it was and John Baird  smashed the shot straight down the middle to make it  1-0. Lyle  and Baird  was close to making it 2-0 however they both had  shots  well  saved.  Just before half time Greg  Kiltie was  forced off  with what  looked  like concussion after a clash of heads, Ian Russell  replaced him. Dumbarton  came out  in second half to  try and force a goal, however Queens defence coped well with any threat. Queens killed the game with two goals in as many minutes. First  Durnan’s header into the top  corner following  a  corner. McShane put corner out to Kerr at edge of box, ball went into box, back out and in again and  Durnan  done well to get his head to  the ball  and force it home. Then  John  Baird  took the ball down the wing  and crossed it to Lyle who had an easy job putting the ball in for 3-0. The rest of the game  was dull with Queens comfortable in defence without offering much up front. A 3-0 win was a great result  and made it  10 points from the last 12. Next up is Hibs away which is a very difficult test, however this Queens  team is on great form and can beat anyone.
