Queens beat Livingston

At Palmerston today 1932 supporters seen Queen of the South beat a poor Livingston side 2-0. It was an important win for Queens to take another step towards the excitement of the play-offs.
The game was far from a classic, however Queens done what was needed to win. Livingston having the bulk of the possession in the first half, it was Queens who created the best chances, with Durnan and Paton going close. Ian McShane opened the scoring with a brilliant solo goal on 25 min. He stole the ball from a defender, ran between another two defenders and on his own with the keeper slotted home. Michael Paton then had to go off after injuring what looks like his hamstring. Queens went in on the break 1-0 up after a poor half.
Queens came out in the second half and pressed Livingston higher up the pitch, and nearly got reward when Livi’s keeper attempted clearance hit Russel but unfortunately went wide. Queens got their second goal not long after with ex Livi striker Ian Russel taking ball into box for Queens, got tackled but ball landed kindly for him and he got a foot to the ball and it went in. After the second goal Livingston had most of the possession without causing Queens any real problems and Queens seemed happy with a 2 goal lead.
The game finished 2-0, however Dumbarton surprisingly beat Hamilton 4-1 to get a goal closer to Queens. With one game left Queens are 3 points ahead of Dumbarton but also 12 goals ahead. Barring a total disaster in the last game Queen of the South will qualify for the end of season play-offs.
