Queens win in league opener

Written by on August 11, 2012

Queen of the South beat Forfar 2-0 today in their first game in Scottish div 2 for nearly 10 years. They had a good first half and could have scored after just a few seconds but header was cleared for a corner. After creating a number of chances they finally scored in the 32nd min. A long ball forward fell for Derek Lyle and with two defenders chasing him, he kept his cool and slotted the ball past Derek Soutar.. Forfar did have some half chances but could not create clear cut chances.
The second half was a drab affair and indeed Queens were lucky not to lose a late goal as a shot flew past the goal. A touch from anyone and ball would have been in goal. It was however Queens who secured the win in 89th min. Reilly got ball at edge of the box on left hand side and came inside beating a defender before putting ball in the opposite corner.
A good win today but an improvement is needed if they are to progress in Ramsdens cup against Morton on tuesday night.
