RUNRIG TO STOP OFF AT CANNY SCOT SHOP

A GRETNA shop boss is proving a massive hit with Runrig fans after a starring role in the Scots rock group’s international fanzine.
Andrew Muir, who runs the Canny Scot Shop at Gretna Services, is now a ‘must meet’ celebrity in his own right amongst the band’s music lovers.
“Since the magazine came out last month I had one woman drive all the way from Swindon to meet me,” he said.
“Another guy heading up to Mull called in to say hello and sales of Runrig CDs and DVDs have absolutely soared.”
“All the publicity has really helped to put us on the music map and it’s fantastic for me to get the chance to personally welcome so many Runrig fans to the shop.”
The Wire fanzine’s double-page spread on Andrew reported how one Runrig fan calls in every few months to buy at least half a dozen albums.
“Sometimes it is the same title so I assume he is buying it for friends,” said Andrew whose special Runrig stand in the Canny Scot Shop includes a live performance on TV for fans.
Long-distance lorry drivers from Germany and Scandinavia – where Runrig are hugely popular – are also regular visitors to the Canny Scot Shop.
Andrew met the band backstage after their recent concert in Gateshead.
“My all-time favourite track has to be An Dealachadh – which is Gaelic for ‘The Parting’ – from the album Everything You See,” he said.
“Every year my wife and I travel to Texas to visit my son who lives and works there and it’s our departure song to the airport after saying goodbye to him.
“It leaves us in tears every time.”
Andrew is now looking forward to welcoming the band to the Canny Scot Shop.
“The band has promised to call in next time they are passing the service area while on tour,” he explained.
