RUSSELL’S ANNIVERSARY YEAR LEAVES A LASTING LEGACY

IN its anniversary year Lochmaben roof tile manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles has made its mark by raising £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Russell Roof Tiles manufactures a range of concrete roof tiles and fittings – used on homes and commercial projects across the UK.
The cash was raised through three main events; staff football matches, a staff fun day in Lochmaben in May and a staff sponsored weight loss – where the sales team lost a massive 12 stone 7lbs in just nine weeks. A team at Russell Roof Tiles also raised £7,000 through Just Giving for Macmillan by participating in the London Triathlon in August with a team of 10 “Roofing Racers.”
The founder’s daughter Mary Colburn (nee Gibson) also donated £200. Originally founded as the Annandale Tile Company in 1965, Russell Roof Tiles was founded by John Gibson, with the purchase the 11-acre Halleaths site. Today the company employs at team of 85 in Lochmaben plus 75 at two other factories in Burton-on-Trent.
Staff from across the UK joined colleagues at the Lochmaben factory to enjoy a family fun day attended by around 220 staff and families in May. The tile factory yard was specially transformed by the team to create a venue appropriate for the festivities, including created an indoor area for the children’s entertainment
Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles, said: “This is a very special year for the business and 2015 marks a huge milestone for all our staff. We’re very pleased to be able to put something back to the local area and make a mark in this special anniversary year.
“Macmillan provides such excellent support for the local community – one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, and many of our staff have been touched by the disease.”
Angela McCormack, Senior Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in Lanarkshire and Dumfries & Galloway added: “Thank you very much to Russell Roof Tiles, this is a fantastic amount of money and we are very grateful for their support; no one should have to face cancer alone and with support of firms like this they won`t have to”.
Macmillan is one of Russell Roof Tiles nominated charities for 2015 – the other being Help for Heroes. ?
