Safety Camera Partnership warns drivers that speeding is a costly business

Speeding is a costly business in more ways than one, and with the introduction of higher speeding fines, the price of being caught speeding just increased. This is the warning from Dumfries and Galloway Safety Camera Partnership.
The cost of a speeding offence will rise from £60 to £100 on 16th August. Motorists who are caught speeding will face the higher speeding fine as well as points on their licence. The £60 fine has been in force for the last ten years. While the fine is rising, the three penalty point punishment is not going to change.
Dumfries and Galloway Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Sgt John Adams, said “The introduction of a higher fine for speeding reflects the seriousness of this driving offence. Speed limits are there for everyone’s safety. The Safety Camera Partnership focuses its efforts on encouraging motorists to drive within the speed limits. It is vitally important that drivers recognise the importance and benefits of reducing their speed and always adjust their speed according to the prevailing driving conditions.”
Extra monies raised from higher speeding fines will go towards victim support schemes to help those who have been on the wrong side of crime.
