Scottish Independence Referendum Voting Guides Hit the Doormats

Written by on August 21, 2014

The Electoral Commission has launched its voter information campaign for the referendum by sending an impartial guide to voting at the referendum to every household in Scotland.

The voting guide, being sent to over 68 thousand households, contains factual information on how to register to vote and the different ways of casting a referendum vote. The 12 page guide also contains information from the two lead campaign groups at the referendum, Yes Scotland and Better Together, along with a joint statement from the Scottish and UK Governments on what would happen after the referendum in the event of either a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ result.

Alex Haswell, Counting Officer for Dumfries and Galloway, said: “The amount of interest and debate in the referendum has been fantastic. As the registration deadline and polling day itself get closer, it’s essential that everyone knows how to participate in this historic vote.

“People will have seen and heard a lot about the referendum already, and the booklet will be delivered to every household in Dumfries and Galloway, providing information about registering and voting in the referendum. People can visit either www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or www.dumgal.gov.uk/elections to access further information”

The Scottish Independence Referendum takes place on the 18 September 2014, only people who are registered to vote and 16 or over on the day of the referendum will be entitled to vote.
