Seeing Stars

For Stargazing Live 2014 Dumfries Astronomy Society is organising a fun filled night of astronomy activities at Dumfries Museum on Saturday 11 January, 7 – 9.30pm. Suitable for all ages, everyone is invited to come along.
BBC Stargazing Live 2014, hosted by Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain, has been taking place this week. This is the fourth year for these popular live TV programmes and for 2014 the key topics included space weather, space exploration and the Milky Way and other galaxies. The event at the museum will follow these themes and include craft activities, constellation building and an “Ask the Astronomer” session where you can ask all of those things you ever wanted to know about the universe and the astronomers will provide answers for (almost) everything.
Interactive activities will take place inside the museum whatever the weather. Each activity will be hosted by a member of the Dumfries Astronomy Society. Weather permitting, some of the members will be outside with telescopes and binoculars to give a guided tour of the night sky. If the sky is clear there is a good chance of seeing Jupiter as well as star constellations and the moon. Please wear warm clothes, hats, scarves and gloves for the observing. Tea, coffee, squash and refreshments will be available indoors.
