Steel Panther (with support from Falling Red)
Friday 9th November , Edinburgh Corn Exchange
Glam metal superstars Steel Panther brought their rock n roll juggernaut to the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh……and it’s not for family viewing (or listening)!! Fresh from a summer of playing festivals all over the world, including our own Download festival- at which they were joined by Slipknot’s Corey Taylor
For the uninitiated, the Panther deal in a note-perfect pastiche of 80s rock, straight from the clubs of Sunset Strip – big hair, big songs and a whole load of spandex!! From the moment they strutted out on stage, the crowd went wild, bouncing, belting out the songs, devil horns pointed skywards!
Personally, I’ve never had so much fun at a gig- the band have perfected their on-stage act right down to the ‘ad-libs’ between songs. Thoroughly entertaining, but very very non-PC!
One of the highlights of the entire show was guitarist Satchel’s prolonged guitar solo, in which he amazed the crowd with his technical guitar flash, incorporating musical quotes from Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses and Black Sabbath….before he accompanied himself on drums!! Well worth a look on YouTube!
The show had everything- pyrotechnics, dancing girls (plucked from the audience!), great songs and a band that clearly love what they do and do it very well…..What’s not to like?! As their encore, the band took to the stage with a piper and proceeded to lead the cheering crowd through “Community Property”, complete with bagpipe solo!
Support came from energetic rockers Falling Red, whose set suffered from various sound problems, but their perseverance and power won the crowd over- a band to watch for the future.
After more than an hour of performing, in the words of their first album, Steel Panther made us all Feel The Steel !
