TORRENTIAL RAIN BRINGS FLOOD THREAT FOR WHTESANDS – FLOODING ON MOTORWAY

TORRENTIAL has brought flooding to many areas across the South of Scotland. The A74M Glasgow – Carlisle motorway has flooding at Johnstonebridge yesterday and a flood warning has been issued for the Whitesands at Dumfries.
The flood warning for the ‘Sands was issued late this afternoon after heavy rainfall throughout the day. River levels are running high with alarm thresholds being reached predicting flooding of the Whitesands area of Dumfries. around 11pm last night and a further warning issued for Monday .
A spokesman for the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency said: “Updates will be posted as more information becomes available. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.

There has also been serious flooding on the A74(M) in Dumfries And Galloway with a warning that flooding has occurred in both directions at J16, B7076 (Johnstonbridge).
There is also reports of flooding in the Newton Stewart area and many rivers across the region are at flooding levels.
Last night traffic was held up on the A75 Gretna – Stranraer Euro-route at Castle Douglas Road in Crocketford midway between Dumfries and Castle Douglas.
The road was partially blocked in both directions before the A712 Maiden Row junction, because of an accident.
