Wickerman rocks Galloway

Warm weather holds for day two of Wickerman as crowds look forward to The View, Texas…and fiery finale!

The Wickerman Festival crowd charmed the sunshine for a second day running, as they continued to enjoy a feast of music and entertainment in the festival’s beautiful farmland setting in Dumfries and Galloway.

Last night saw the site bathed in a spectacular Scottish sunset with a series of blistering sets to match. Scots electro-popsters Bis started the evening performances on the Summerisle Stage, quickly followed by Britpop icons Cast, who didn’t disappoint with their sing-along hits and rock legends Levellers, aptly summing up first day of the festival with crowd-rousing anthem, ‘Beautiful Day’.

As fairy lights twinkled throughout the arena, Sister Sisters took to the stage and the atmosphere turned electric as Jake Shears and Ana Matronic delighted crowds with a stunning set full of colour, lights and disco. Kicking off with their hit ‘Any Which Way’, singer Ana Matronic summed it up when she declared from the stage: ‘It doesn’t matter where we go in the world….we always pretend we’re in Scotland!’ Meanwhile funk legends, The Blockheads headlined the Scooter Tent, and raised the roof with a set of classic jump-along hits.

Saturday’s Summerisle line-up kicked off with local Dumfries boys Finding Albert who shifted the relaxed Wickerman crowd into party mode, quickly followed by the rousing tunes of Edinburgh collective the Horndog Brass Band.

The 15,000 strong mix of festival goers, music fans and families on site are now looking forward to performances from Duke Special, Kassidy, Newton Faulkner, The View, Root System, Bad Manners, Mike Skinner (DJ set) and headliners Texas amongst many others – plus gathering for the midnight burning of the imposing 40 feet high Wickerman statue on the edge of the festival – which this year strikes an ‘Olympian’ pose – is the symbolic finale.

Festival Coordinator, Helen Chalmers commented: ‘Friday was a fantastic day with our vibrant fans fully getting into the festival spirit and some amazing performances across the stages. Today is delivering more of the same – sunshine, a friendly chilled out crowd, some fantastic artists and entertainment to enjoy and the spectacle of our famous Wickerman burning finale.’
