Wickerman to Help Fans with ‘Pitch Perfect’ Proposal

Written by on February 13, 2013

Wickerman, one of Scotland’s best-loved independent music festivals, has today proposed a novel new initiative to help smitten music fans pop the question…festival style.

On the 14th February, Wickerman will play cupid by launching a nationwide competition offering twelve music-loving romantics the opportunity to propose to their partner in a new Wicker Love Lounge – a unique festival setting created especially for this year’s festival.

Following the growing number of proposals taking place on the festival site in previous years, festival organisers will set the Love Lounge in a luxury handcrafted yurt, with the beautiful Wickerman site as a scenic rural backdrop.

It will be decorated to create the ultimate romantic setting, complete with a bespoke wicker kneeling stool and ring to help gentlemen (or women) seal the deal – handmade by the craftsman who creates the iconic ‘Wickerman’ at each year’s festival. Celebratory champagne, locally picked flowers, photographs and the couple’s signature song will add to the experience.

Wickerman Festival Coordinator Helen Chalmers says: ‘If music be the food of love, then this year’s festival is the perfect place to ‘play on’ and we are delighted to launch our first Wicker Love Lounge. Wickerman has a reputation for being one of Scotland’s most relaxed and friendly festivals and it is also becoming known as quite a romantic event. From last year’s Wicker wedding which was covered on BBC3’s Don’t Tell the Bride to the spectacular flyby aeroplane proposal, more and more festival goers are professing their love on-site. We have already had a 2013 wedding request and are hopeful that our new Love Lounge will provide a truly original proposal setting.’

To win one of the twelve ‘Wicker Love Lounge’ slots, which will take place between 5pm – 7pm on both days of the festival, entrants must submit 100 words on how they met their partner and why they want to propose at the Wickerman Festival. Entries will be accepted from the 14th February to 14th April 2013 via wickerlovelounge@burtgreener.co.uk. Successful entrants will be notified by 30th April and arrangements made to ensure that their unique Wicker proposal stands the best chance of receiving a ‘yes’!

From the main Summerisle Stage to the Acoustic Village and the punk-driven Scooter Tent…Wickerman acts have included: Scissor Sisters, Texas, The View, Newton Faulkner, Levellers, James, Feeder, The Charlatans and The Coral amongst many others.

It is one of the friendliest festivals in Scotland and with hundreds of music-loving families in attendance each year, there’s a host of cool kids entertainment and activities on offer. The festival site is a working farm in picturesque Dumfries and Galloway; its rolling hills, lush forests and fresh country air make for a refreshing vibe. It is also where the classic 1973 Wicker Man film was made – the inspiration for the festival’s name.

The Wickerman site is a wonderland for adults and children alike with a cinema, fun fair, circus entertainment, grass sledging, mountain biking and array of arts and craft activities scattered throughout its fields. High quality yurts, tipis and cloudhouses and spacious campsites complete the magical festival experience.
