WILD Spring Festival 2016 will start on Friday the 25 March and run through until Sunday 10 April.

A programme of over 60 events, activities, fairs and guided walks will highlight the fantastic wildlife that is coming back to life, or just coming back to Dumfries and Galloway. The events will cover the entire region from Easter Egg Hunts on the Mull of Galloway to practical conservation work on the Devil’s Beeftub.

Chairman of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Colin Smyth said;

“The spring is a time of fantastic changes in the countryside of Dumfries and Galloway as winter visitors such as the Barnacle Geese leave us and summer residents like the Ospreys start to return. Getting outside to see all of this happening is an experience that should be enjoyed by everyone and these events allow everyone to do that.

With Dumfries and Galloway having just been declared Holiday Destination of the year by BBC Countryfile Magazine the Wild Spring Festival is a fantastic opportunity for people to come here and find out why the region is so special.”

To see what events are taking place during the festival and also what’s on throughout the rest of the year go to www.wildseasons.co.uk.

The website is packed with information on the wildlife found in Dumfries and Galloway in the spring and the best nature reserves, country parks and walks to go to at this time of year.

Wildseasons is a group of organisations and individuals concerned with wildlife conservation and tourism in Dumfries and Galloway led by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Countryside Team, the Southern Upland Partnership and Scottish Natural Heritage. Events in the festival are being run by the Borders Forest Trust, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, RSPB, Lockerbie Wildlife Trust, Castle Kennedy Gardens, Buccleuch Ranger Service, Scottish Wildlife Trust and freelance wildlife guides.
