3-5 St Mary’s Street, Dumfries. Demolish or retain?

Written by on February 9, 2011

St Mary's StreetLoreburn Housing association proposes to demolish half of St Mary’s Street in Dumfries, SW Scotland – a group of  Victorian sandstone buildings, in an “Outstanding Conservation Area”. They have plans to replace the old buildings with a new residential development.

The Nithsdale Area Regulatory Committee recommended these proposals for Approval on 12 January. There were objections to the proposals, but some people are outraged that the plans got through and are encouraging members of the public to take further steps by writing to Dumfries & Galloway Councillors, Historic Scotland, and to MSPs and sign an online petition, which will be sent to Dumfries and Galloway Council, Historic Scotland, and to MSPs.

To find out more, have a look at the plans on www.dumgal.gov.uk or sign the petition on www.petitionbuzz.com
