61 year old Michael Paterson shot dead and another injured, at Old Bridge of Urr, Castle Douglas yesterday

Police have now named the dead man who was found at Old Bridge of Urr, Castle Douglas, on Sunday 13 December as 61 year old Michael Paterson from Kings Grange Lodge, Old Bridge of Urr, Castle Douglas.

The shooting incident which took place shortly before the death of Mr Paterson, involved a 48 years old man, Philip Sayers, from the Thornhill area. Mr Sayers is currently being treated for gunshot injuries at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. The incident happened around 11.40am. Police are continuing their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the events at Old Bridge of Urr and are appealing for witnesses.

It is thought the dead man took his own life. Police don’t believe anyone else was involved and state that the public is not in danger.

Detective Inspector Colin Blackley, Senior Investigating Officer in the case said earlier today, “Enquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances leading up to and around the tragic shootings on Sunday 12 December 2010 at Old Bridge of Urr. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have any information which would help them in this enquiry”.
