Outstanding success for Glasgow Girls in Kirkcudbright

The Glasgow Girls exhibition in Kirkcudbright Town Hall is proving to be an outstanding success, with visitor numbers exceeding the expectations.
The exhibition is proving to be a big hit with visitors and many are saying that this exhibition is the best ever in the series that the Kirkcudbright 2000 group has arranged with Dumfries and Galloway Council’s support since the first in 2000.
Councillor Patsy Gilroy, Convener of Dumfries and Galloway Council, said, “The exhibition has proved to be immensely popular and I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet seen it to do so before the end of August. The Glasgow Girls exhibition is a fine example of what partnership can achieve. The combined efforts of Lord Macfarlane’s exhibition advisory group, the Kirkcudbright 2000 committee and Dumfries and Galloway Council have delivered another outstanding exhibition, which has greatly helped to raise the profile of Kirkcudbright Artists’ Town and brought many people to the region from far and wide.”
Kirkcudbright 2000 Chairman, Joe Campbell, said,“Every visitor I’ve spoken to has been astounded by the range and quality of art on show. Many knew some of The Girls by name but now recognise that the group was much bigger than they had believed. Those of us who have been involved in setting up and managing the exhibition are grateful to private and corporate lenders who have loaned their treasures so willingly. All of us believe the exhibition has given The Girls their place in the sun and that from now on their artistry will be all the more appreciated.”
Councillor Tommy Jacques, vice-chairman of Stewartry Area committee, said, “I’m sure that like me many of the visitors were really impressed and enlightened by the work of the Glasgow Girls. Visiting the exhibition was a most refreshing experience.”
Kirkcudbright 2000 can now confidently predict that the final visitor total will be in excess of 30,000 by the exhibition’s close on August 30. Sales have also been very high, requiring the reprinting of the exhibition book, and donations have been extremely generous, which will enable Kirkcudbright 2000 to push forward with plans for next year’s exhibition.
The Glasgow Girls exhibition is in Kirkcudbright Town Hall until August 30. It is open every day, including Sundays, from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free but donations will help ensure the continuation of this fine series of exhibition in Kirkcudbright Artists’ Town.
