D&G Blood Bikes rise to challenge

On of the newest organisations in the region D&G Blood Bikes have risen to the challenge and now have the honour of having made one of the longest Blood Bike runs in Britain.
350 miles 6 Riders 5 different Groups, all coordinated by D&G Blood Bikes.
The Run

Total time for the service 10 hours 25 minutes.
Their service normally ends at 6am, fortunately their controller was available during the day so kept the phones open.
A call came in at 09.10 for an urgent transfer from Dumfries Hospital to Charing Cross Hospital in London.
By 10.00 they had set up a chain of 6 riders from 5 different Blood Bike groups across Britain to relay the package from Dumfries to London.
The rider picked up & transferred the urgent sample to “Blood Bikes Cumbria” at Gretna, who then transferred to “North West Blood Bikes” at Fulton Services. The next transfer was to “Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes” at Keele services on the M6, who met up with SERV OBN at Junction 2 on the M6. SERV then transferred to a second member of their group at Oxford services on the M40 who delivered the sample to Charring Cross Hospital in London.
Dumfries & Galloway BB maintained control of the sample throughout its journey confirming delivery at 19.35 in London.
What an amazing community of dedicated volunteers coming together across the country to provide this service, thank you to all of the Controllers and Riders involved. Their dedication commitment and professional approach, is truly appreciated.
And today they are off again with a Sample transported from Stranraer to Dumfries by Scotland’s first Female Blood Biker.
A truly amazing achievement for an organisation that has been operational for only 2 months .
