Keep the kids entertained at annual Dumfries & Galloway event

Galloway Country Fair will return to Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate this year, with a feast of family fun. The annual Fair, which will take place on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, will see the introduction of a brand new, free children’s entertainment zone, giving youngsters the chance to expend their energy and enjoy a fun-filled weekend.

Children can choose from a host of exciting activities, including a giant assault course, a bouncy castle, an inflatable slide, a bucking bronco, mini quad bikes and inflatable laser tag.

Brave youngsters looking for an extra challenge can take on the low ropes course. The 65ft course is packed with various activities to keep everyone entertained. And the usual favourites like face painting are sure to be a hit with the little ones.

A new addition to the Fair this year is a dedicated baby changing and feeding area which can be found in the children’s zone, courtesy of Bump, Baby and Beyond Dumfries – a charitable organisation providing support for new parents. The group will also provide opportunities for play throughout the weekend.

Slinging Around Sling Library will also attend with a Sling Stop Buggy Drop, where qualified Carrying Consultants will fit mums with a sling so they can leave the buggy behind and enjoy the weekend carrying baby close.

Animal-loving families will also be well-catered for, as Drumlanrig’s own David Lisett performs gundog displays on both days and the Galloway Gundogs take part in a scurry test.

The Fair’s much-loved Sheep Show will make a welcome return alongside a new Dog and Duck Display – a 20-minute duck-herding show with audience participation to give the kids the chance to get involved.

The 2015 Fair has been given funding support by VisitScotland’s Events Directorate to help celebrate Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink. To mark this, Galloway Country Fair will boast the largest ever Food Marquee offering a wealth of tasty produce to keep the family going throughout the weekend. And among the weekend’s culinary events, there is a chance for young budding bakers to get creative – with a Decorative Cupcake Competition. All entrants must be under 16 and the winning entry will receive a 2016 family season pass for Drumlanrig Country Estate

Anna Fergusson, Visitor Services Centre Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “Galloway Country Fair has always been a highlight of our summer calendar and this year, we’re more family-focused than ever, particularly given the addition of a dedicated feeding and changing area.We love to welcome families to Drumlanrig throughout the year, and the Fair is a great opportunity to explore the grounds of the Estate, visit the array of stalls and take part in our various family friendly activities.”
