Tribute tree vandalised

A PEAR tree planted by Princess Anne in May on The Green at Gretna has been vandalised.
Police have described it as wanton vandalism and are urging the public to come forward and help their investigation.
Police Scotland said today that the tree planted on May 220 by HRH Princes Anne on The Green at Gretna Green has been chopped down sometime overnight Friday 21/Saturday 22 August 2015.
The tree replaced an old pear tree which had become rotten and dangerous.
Constable Andy Aitken of Police Scotland at Gretna said: “Itt beggers belief that someone has carried out such a wanton act of vandalism.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area of The Green at Gretna Green to get in touch through 101 if they can help.”
