Curling: Indoor Grand Match takes place all over Scotland on 23rd October 2010

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club’s third Indoor Grand Match will take place this Saturday, 23rd October 2010, where over 2000 curlers will throw almost 24,000 stones during the battle of North of Scotland versus South of Scotland.
During the day, the fifteen participating ice rinks will run different number of sessions to accommodate all the teams participating across the country with catering and many other social events taking place to mark the occasion. The official headquarters for the event will be at Murrayfield Curling Rink in Edinburgh, where the event will be officially opened for competition at 10am. Additionally, during the day, all the scores from the rinks across Scotland will be gathered at Murrayfield Curling Rink, counted and ratified before either the North or the South of Scotland will be awarded with the prestigious Grand Match Trophy in the evening following the conclusion of all the games.
A special VIP session will take place at Murrayfield Curling Rink at 10am on Saturday, where the President and Vice President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club will commence their battle against one another, while other invitees such as the 2010 Paralympians, Scottish Senior Men’s and Ladies teams, Scottish Disability Sport and the current Scottish Men’s and Women’s Curling Championship sponsors the Scottish Liqueur Centre will compete in their own respective games.
Robbie Scott, President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, said, “it is exciting that this event is taking place once again with as many curlers from across Scotland travelling to other rinks to support and take part. The Indoor Grand Match is a great day out for both veteran curlers and new curlers alike, where many of the traditions of Scottish curling are upheld and where old friendships are brought together and new friendships are created”.
The first Indoor Grand Match was held ten years ago to mark the millennium and also since a long period of time had passed since outside conditions were suitable for the Royal Caledonian Curling Club to host an outdoor Grand Match. Thereafter, it was suggested that the match should take place every five years and following another successful and enjoyable event in 2005, the Royal Caledonian Curling Club is delighted to continue this tradition once again.
