Details of the fatal road crash on A75 near Springholm yesterday

About 1605 hours on Monday 24 January 2011 a three car road crash occurred on the A75 road just east of the village of Springholm in Dumfries and Galloway. The three vehicles involved were a Suzuki Swift motor car being driven by a 22 year old man from Bately in West Yorkshire, who was fatally injured in the crash. The other vehicles involved were a Vauxhall Vectra car being driven by a 57 year old man from Stranraer, and he had one male and two female passengers with him, all from the Stranraer area. The third vehicle was a Vauxhall Astra car being driven by a 40 year old man from Girvan. The occupants of the Vauxhall Vectra all received minor injuries and the occupant of the Astra car was not injured.
As a result of this crash the A75 road was closed for some 8 hours to allow for a full crash investigation to take place. Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash and the Procurator Fiscal has been informed.
