Police have released information on a second fatal crash on the A 75 on Wednesday 8th June. The first crash happened around 1800 hours and involved a red coloured VW Golf Estate car, just east of the junction for the road to Twynholm. The driver of the vehicle, an 82 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The second crash happened just before midnight, about 3 miles west of Newton Stewart. A 22 year old man died when a black coloured Vauxhall Vectra car, which had a distinctive silver coloured bonnet, left the road. A second man in the car was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he was treated for bruising and shock. The road at this point remains closed and, although diversions are in place, police are warning of extensive delays and traffic congestion in the area. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible. Should they require to travel on the diversion route, they should not deviate onto other roads in an attempt to take shortcuts. The Procurator Fiscal has been informed.
Police are appealing for witnesses to these crashes. They are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the actual crashes, or who may have seen either of the cars prior to point where they crashed to get in touch through the usual number; 0845 600 5701.
