Disruption ahead as major roadworks take place and a new water main installed.

From Wednesday 15 June 2011, major works will disrupt traffic in the approaches to the Buccleuch Street Bridge. From the start of the school holidays there will be resurfacing works on the bridge itself.
The Council will be carrying out surfacing, traffic signal refurbishment and joint repairs on the bridge. This work will happen over 4 weekends beginning 9 July. From August to October the bridge will be repainted.
A contractor for the Summerfield/Marchfield housing development also needs to install a new water main. This affects the Council’s plans for the bridge work, so the installation in the approaches to the bridge will be done prior to the resurfacing work. This is the work that will begin on Wednesday 15 June. The remaining water main works have been planned around the school holidays to minimise the impact on local schools.
Road closures will be necessary and delays to the travelling public will be unavoidable. The work is important and traffic management has been discussed in detail with contractors, police and public transport to minimise the disruption as much as possible.
