Dinosaur hunters flock to Annan Museum

The magnificent bones of the largest animals to have ever walked the Earth, can be found at Annan Museum this summer. The exhibition “The Age of the Dinosaur” opened on 25th June and school groups were the first to see it.

The focus of the exhibition is two huge femurs (upper leg bones). The Brontosaurus (or Apatosaurus) femur is over 1.5 meters long, but this huge herbivore was a gentle giant compared to the vicious hunter Tyrannosaurus Rex. T. Rex’s femur towers over the exhibition, and it is not hard to imagine this amazing animal looming over the museum looking down on its dinner.

The exhibition also includes full-sized replica fossils of dinosaur skulls, claws and footprints, all of which can be touched by budding palaeontologists, as well as a range of activities and interactives for all ages.

The museum is offering a programme of free events throughout the summer. Craft workshops are available at 11.30am every Thursday in July and August, excluding 14th July and 18th August when the ZOOLAB team will be putting on their workshops. Booking is recommended for all these workshops, but especially for ZOOLAB. Contact Annan Museum on 01461 201384.

The museum is open Monday to Saturday, 11 to 4, free of charge.
