Village Halls Improvement Scheme

The following Village Halls Improvement Scheme awards for 2012-13 were approved by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Director of Community and Customer Services under delegated authority:

Beeswing Memorial Hall, Dumfries £2756 Priority 1, 2 and 3 – supply and fit one arched window; replace entrance floor, insulate, supply and fit safety flooring; remove timber cladding to walls and ceilings and insulate; fixtures for flame retardant curtains.

Bowlers Hall, Castle Douglas £2810 Priority 1 and 2 – sand and revarnish main hall floor; paint all internal stone walls, doors and facings in main hall, kitchen and toilet areas.

Carsluith Village Hall, Newton Stewart £3000 Priority 2 and 3 – supply and fit new kitchen; woodworm treatment; insulation of roof space and external decoration.

Castle Douglas Community Centre £3000 Priority 2 – replastering & redecoration caused by water ingress from roof in cafeteria and Room 8 or Rooms 3 and 4.

Collin Village Hall, Dumfries £781 Priority 3 – erect sandstone wall to front of building and replace existing hedge between hall and neighbour’s property with closeboard fence.

Creca Village Hall, Annan £750 Priority 1 – to supply and fit two new outside security doors.

Ewes Hall, Langholm £756 Priority 2 and 3 – redecorate toilet facilities as result of water damage; external decoration of new corrugated iron sheets to roof and end wall of hall.

Georgetown Community Centre, Dumfries £1374 Priority 1 – supply and fit safety floor to hall toilets, seal exposed joins and fit sit on skirtings.

Glencairn Memorial Institute, Moniaive 2284 Priority 2 – insulation of committee room ceiling, plaster and

decoration.

Glentrool and Bargrennan Community Facility, Newton Stewart £2359 Priority 1 – replace hall windows with double glazed units for meter room, cleaner’s cupboard, staffrooms and toilets.

Half Morton Hall, Chapelknowe, Canonbie £1964 Priority 1 and 3 – replace four arched windows; supply hardcore/chippings for car park.

Heathhall Community Centre, Dumfries £2600 Priority 2 – to replace all kitchen units, worktops and splashbacks.

Middlebie Community Centre, Lockerbie £1000 Priority 3 – purchase of cooker and instantaneous water heater; upgrade electrical circuit.

Monreith Village Hall, Wigtown £271 Priority 3 – provision of new carpet bowling boards which will double up as stage.

Mossdale Village Hall, Castle Douglas £945 Priority 1 – supply and install three storage heaters on to Economy night rate electricity.

Rhonehouse Village Hall, Castle Douglas £1639 Priority 1 – remove contaminated plaster from kitchen wall, remove rotten roof timbers, build stud wall and insulate, reboard and plaster; redecoration.

Royal Four Towns Hall, Hightae, Lockerbie £1000 Priority 3 – repainting exterior of hall walls, woodwork, guttering and railings.

Sandhead Bowling and Community Club, Stranraer £900 Priority 3 – apply masonry paint to external building walls, prepare, undercoat and gloss windows, doors, fascia and soffit.

Twynholm Hall, Kirkcudbright £2125 Priority 3 – supply and fit flame-retardant curtains to conform with Health and Safety legislation and insurance.

Westerkirk Ex-Serviceman’s Public Hall, Langholm £714 Priority 3 – paint interior walls, beams and windows and exterior windows and doors.

Delegated authority is used for applications of £3000 or under.

Applications from village halls and community facilities for capital work will continue to be considered until the remaining budget is exhausted.
