Did you know that there is a new law in Scotland to protect adults at risk of harm?
Adult Protection Week will take place across Dumfries and Galloway, beginning on Monday 20 September. To find out more about how you can protect people, come along to one of the Adult Protection roadshows:
- Monday 20 September: Tesco, Castle Douglas, 11am to 3pm
- Tuesday 21 September: Tesco, Cuckoo Bridge, Dumfries, 11am to 3 pm
- Thursday 23 September: Tesco, Peel Centre, Dumfries, 11am to 3pm
- Thursday 23 September: Tesco, Stranraer, 11am to 3pm
- Friday 24 September: Tesco, Annan, 11am to 3pm
If you know an adult is at risk of harm, either from themselves or others, the law states that you must tell someone: Social Work Services of the Council.
The law states that the Council must carry out inquiries to investigate any referral that something is wrong. It also states that the Police, NHS and all partner agencies must work closely with the Council, sharing necessary information.
In Dumfries and Galloway, we have an Adult Protection Committee, which ensures that all staff across the agencies understand their duties in relation to adult protection, that there are appropriate systems in place, and that the members of the public know what to do if they have a worry about an adult.
The Adult Protection Committee is running a campaign, raising awareness of the issue and highlighting the phone number to call: 030 33 33 3000.
The campaign of adverts uses bus shelters, buses, bin lorries, cinema screens, libraries, doctors’ waiting rooms, pharmacies, local newspapers, DG Life, and Council premises.
