EXTRA police patrols in Dumfries town centre and at the surrounding retail parks are being introduced from this weekend to combat crime in retail premises. Dumfries Community Policing Unit Town Centre Officers launched their festive safety campaign yesterday.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “This will see increased patrols in Dumfries Town Centre and the surrounding retails parks in an effort to provide a safe and secure environment for the public. The officers will be carrying out high visibility and plain clothed patrols in order to detect and deter those persons who commit thefts in retail premises.
“A 30-year-old female has already been arrested and will be appearing at Dumfries Sheriff Court in the near future after she was arrested for theft from a shop in Dumfries.”
