D&G Council Gardeners Win Silver at RHS Flower Show

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s gardeners have brought home a silver award for their entry in the 2013 National Flowerbed competition at the RHS Tatton Park Show in Cheshire.
This year our Council’s horticulture team chose ‘Dock Park Regeneration’ as the theme for their garden. The flowerbed includes some of the most well known and loved features of the park such as the Titanic memorial, the bandstand and the mature trees.
Heading up the team is the experienced Brian McAvinney, Nursery Foreman, who designed the flower bed. He said, “This is the highlight of the year, especially for our apprentices. It gives them the chance to exercise skills they don’t often have the chance to use and gives them valuable experience. The silver medal rewards a great deal of team work.”
Chair of DGFirst Committee, Councillor Patsy Gilroy, said, “Congratulations to Brian and to the whole team for demonstrating their commitment and expertise in bringing together a very smart design. The theme is very topical with the regeneration of the Dock Park in Dumfries well under way. I am delighted that they have been awarded a silver medal which is well deserved after all their hard work. We are fortunate to have their skills in Dumfries and Galloway.”
