Written by on October 22, 2013

It’s time to nominate your local heroes – the inspiring, invaluable folks who play such an important part in our community and help make the region the place it is – as we launch our Dumfries & Galloway Life People of the Year Awards for 2013.

The awards are being held in association with Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries, which will host the special celebration lunch on November 29.

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Alex Fergusson was so impressed with the People of the Year Awards last year that he called on the Scottish Parliament to congratulate Dumfries & Galloway Life and all the winners.“What this wonderful event has done is highlight not just the number of great people we have, but the whole breadth and depth of everything they do and everything they represent” he said.

Gilly Fraser, who compered the event last year, is delighted to return as host for 2013 and is calling on Dumfries & Galloway Life readers to get nominating their local heroes: “I am really looking forward to finding out what more this wonderful region can possibly have to offer. I know it has many riches still to reveal, so don’t be shy – bring them on!”

The People of the Year Awards recognise those in the worlds of business, enterprise, arts and leisure, sports, culture, tourism and food and drink – as well as honouring those who play a vital role in their community. Categories this year include: Community Project, Young Achiever, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, while the previous Artist of the Year award has been renamed Artist/Maker or Performer of the Year, to the reflect the diverse nature of all those making significant contributions to Dumfries & Galloway’s rich, vibrant arts, crafts and cultural scene.

The closing date for nominations is October 25.
