Inspectors see improved teaching and learning at Hecklegirth Primary School
Recently, Education Scotland’s inspectors paid a return visit to Hecklegirth Primary School. During the visit, the inspectors considered the areas that had been identified in the original inspection and the school’s work since then. They found that significant progress had been made.
The school received praise for ensuring the progressive development of children’s skills, knowledge and understanding, particularly in English language and Mathematics. Across the primary and nursery stages, children are actively involved in their learning, enthusiastic, confident and engage in a wider variety of higher quality activities.
It was noted that the staff had worked hard to bring about change and improved the pace of development. Education Scotland found staff and the Headteacher have worked well together to increase the development of Curriculum for Excellence. The Inspectors stated that the Headteacher provided clear leadership and direction and encouraged leadership in staff. Children’s progress is now tracked more effectively to ensure all learners attain as highly as possible. The school has also made improvements to the consistency of learning and teaching, and in identifying and supporting children who require additional help with their learning.
Education Scotland has asked the school to continue its self-evaluative approaches with children, parents and staff to work toward the goals set within their new shared vision.

This highlights the good work being done at Hecklegirth Primary School and I’d like to thank and congratulate all staff and pupils who contributed towards this.”
