VITAL ROAD MAINTENANCE TO TAKE PLACE ON A751

An essential maintenance scheme on the A751 south of Inch Parks Farm will begin on Monday 9 March, lasting for approximately three weeks.
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the million pound project which will see a significant improvement to the road surface and drainage systems on the A751 which joins the A77 to the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.
The project is in addition to the £3.5m that has already been invested across Dumfries and Galloway’s trunk roads network over the last 12 months.
Gordon Wilson, contract director for Scotland TranServ said:
“This route connects not only the north and south of Dumfries and Galloway but is also a vital lifeline route for over 1,500 motorists and heavy goods traffic travelling to and from the local ferry terminals.
“It is essential that we carry out this vital maintenance programme to ensure the longevity of the road surface for local residents, businesses and freight traffic in this historic maritime area for years to come.”
In order to carry out this programme of work it will be necessary to close the A751 in both directions throughout the works. A diversion route will be in place via the A77 and A75 with only an additional six minutes journey time. All work has been scheduled to ensure minimum delays to motorists and freight traffic alike.

In Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland TranServ has subcontracted its roads maintenance and winter services to DG First which maintains 262 kilometres of south west Scotland’s trunk road network stretching from Gretna to Stranraer, Dumfries to Beattock & Dumfries to Kirkconnel.
