Launch of Creative Learning Networks in Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries & Galloway Council launched Creative Learning Networks at the CatStrand in New Galloway on Thursday 17th February 2011.
Through national funding from Children in Scotland and the new Creative Scotland, the Creative Learning Network (CLN) in Dumfries and Galloway was made live to all schools across the region through the use of GLOW (National Schools Intranet) offering support in a safe and secure environment. Through these CLNs, existing and new relationships and collaborations can take place directly between schools and external partners. The network means that cultural organisations and schools can discuss opportunities, share learning and teaching resources and build capacity in regards to creative and cultural education.
The conference included invited partners/artists talking about their work with schools, and how the CLN can be developed further in Dumfries and Galloway. Main speakers at national level included Joan Parr from Creative Scotland, Paul Gorman from theatre company Visible Fictions, David Barras from film company Strangeboat and local speakers included Carolyn Yates, Literature Development Officer from DGarts and Dawn Henderby, Arts Officer at Gracefield Arts Centre.
The Council’s Schools Services Curriculum for Excellence and GLOW team organised the launch.
