Line to reopen today

WORK to clear the Dumfries – Kilmarnock rail line which has been closed for the past two weeks has been completed.
The ScotRail Alliance said last night that the line will be re-opened in time for services to operate this morning (MON).
Work has been going on the clear the line after a freight rain was derailed near Cumnock.
A 130 tonne locomotive engine pulling freight wagons was involved in the derailment which has led to the line’s closure.
Alternative arrangements for passengers have been in operation since the accident which is being investigated by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.
Specialist heavy lifting equipment had to be brought in as work went on to clear the wagons and the engine.
A spokesman for ScotRail Alliance said the line had been cleared and the damaged tracks repaired and that trains would be running again.”
They thanked customers for their patience during the past two weeks when passengers were bussed between Dumfries and Kilmarnock.
Network Rail said a 130-tonne locomotive engine and 16 wagons were moved from the site by Friday.
