Local Business urged to bid for council contracts

Dumfries and Galloway Council means business! That is the message the Local Authority is sending out to businesses and companies through its partnership with the National Supplier Development Programme.
The Local Authority spend on Supplies, Services and Works in financial year 2011/12 was £132.49million, and 34.55% of this expenditure was with suppliers registered with DG postcodes. The Council therefore spent £39.637million with these suppliers.
A seminar targeted, but not limited to Dumfries and Galloway businesses will take place at DG One on Friday November 23 from 10.00am to 12.30pm (teas/coffees from 9.30am),
Titled, ’Is The Public Sector For You’, there is no cost to attend – just a requirement to register with the Supplier Development Programme via their website; www.sdpscotland.co.uk and to contact gemma.brown@drs.glasgow.gov.uk (0141-287-7277). The half day seminar takes will provide a comprehensive overview on the public sector market place and understanding key, contemporary procurement issues.
The Supplier Development Programme aims to assist businesses of all types to bid for and win public sector based contracts. Through dedicated seminars and training events, businesses can gain the knowledge and skills to confidently bid to secure Council and public sector contracts and improve their competitiveness.
Chair of Planning, Housing and Environment Committee, Councillor Ian Carruthers said, “I am delighted that Dumfries and Galloway Council is able to support businesses to gain greater confidence and knowledge when bidding for public sector contracts. The event will increase businesses understanding of the public sector market place.”
Sean McKay, of Elite Signs said, “This Seminar is really useful and informative, and it increased my knowledge and skills around procurement issues. Elite Signs is now more geared up to bid for and win public sector contracts as a result of my attendance at Council and supplier Development Programme courses.”
A well attended Seminar will enable the Council to schedule future training events in 2013.
