Man found Dead in River Nith

About 1450 hours on 13/08/2010. Police officers attended to a report that a person had jumped into the River Nith at the McMillan Bridge, Kingholm Road, Dumfries. On arrival officers found a male person in the middle of the river. A police officer entered the water and recovered this person who was immediately attended by ambulance staff however a short time later life was pronounced extinct.
The deceased’s family have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal for their attention. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident at this time.
