Town set for bumper Show

THOUSANDS are expected at the Dumfries and Lockerbie Agricultural Show at Park Farm, Dumfries today.
The action starts first thing in the morning and continues throughout the day.
Organisers are hoping that there will be no repeat of last year when the parade had to be cancelled because of the heavy rain.
Judging starts at 9am and continues until around 1pm when the champions should be know in all the sections.
One of the big attractions will be the craft fair, food festival and dairy produce competition.
But the main focus will be on the judging rings where there are 89 dairy cattle entries as well as 182 beef cattle, 708 sheep, 62 goals and 427 horses.
Chairman Ritchie Strawhorn said: “A lot of hard work has already gone into the preparation for this year’s show. We’ve got a good committee and that takes a lot of pressure of my job.
‘They’re an experienced bunch of fellows who know their own duties and get on with them.”
He added: “Our new secretary Susan Bicket has settled in well and is doing a great job. The way she has fitted in is absolutely great and and she has her mother Esther in the background if she has any problems.
”It is the weather that will make or break the show. I’ve had one of each so I’m hoping that my last show as chairman will be one with sunshine. Two years ago we had a great day with big crowds but last year it was wet from first thing and then we had to cancel the parade which was unfortunate.”
