We’re seeking to employ an individual ready to take on wide responsibilities and address issues to enable our station to go to the next level.

The post is based in Dumfries – the capital of South West Scotland, with a community radio station which has been on air for almost two years, with a keen, stable and experienced team of 30+ volunteers. This is the first employee of the station and would be responsible to make the project financially secure through developing a variety of income streams.

The job is initially for over 30 hours per week, with an initial 12 month contract. Salary and conditions are negotiable, in the region of £22,000 per year, depending on experience and ability.

The successful candidate would need to share the core values and faith ethos of the station and its parent body; Alive Christian Media Ltd. The aim is to make this post permanent with the necessary funding in future years being generated through earned income but, at the same time, retaining the core volunteer ethos of Alive Radio.

BACKGROUND

The main audience for Alive Radio are the 45,000 people living in the communities within 5 km of the radio station’s base in the town of Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. In addition up to a further 20,000 people in surrounding rural areas are able to receive the broadcasts out to approximately 20 km due to atmospheric and geographic conditions. Although the station is based on Christian values, its output is intended to interest and benefit people of all faiths or none. It aims to build bridges within the local community between Churches and the wider population, presenting the Christian faith in an attractive, understandable way, which ordinary people can relate to, through radio and extending to other forms of media. It also provides a platform for people of all ages to be involved as volunteers in broadcasting.

Live daytime programmes provide a mix of music (70%) and speech (30%). Music consists of a wide range of styles, including Christian Contemporary and other Christian genres, promoting local musicians, whenever possible. Speech output includes local and world news, community news and announcements, local events, issues, interviews and sports.
