Dumfries and Galloway Council has agreed to an additional day of leave for all Council staff to mark the wedding of Prince William and Miss Kate Middleton on Friday 29 April 2011.
The day will not, however, be classified by the Council as a public holiday. Any Council staff required to work on the day to provide services will be given a day off in lieu.
The following services will remain operational on Friday 29 April:
Meals on Wheels, refuse collection, street cleansing, home care, leisure centres, registration offices, libraries, museums, customer service centres, day care provision, Social Work Services operational teams
An application seeking consent to close all schools in the region on Friday 29 April 2011 will now be submitted to the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government Learning Directorate has issued a letter giving authority for an exceptional closure of local authority schools. This indicates that Scottish Government ministers will look favourably on any requests from Councils for consent to close schools on that day.
