Workaid – helping people in East Africa with your old garden tools

Here’s a message from David Wilson, from Hetland Garden Centre, describing a new initiative to help third world countries with tools:
“At Hetland Garden Centre we are really pleased about a new charity project we are starting – something which will give all our customers the chance to help simply by clearing out unused and unwanted clutter. Do you have old unwanted gardening tools cluttering up your shed? If, so then do please bring them along to Hetland this Spring. Why? Because we have teamed up with the Buckinghamshire based charity, Work Aid to act as a collecting point for old gardening tools. Once refurbished by volunteers at the Workaid workshop, the tools will be transported to projects in East Africa to help vulnerable and disadvantaged people such as orphans, widows, the homeless, disabled people and people living with HIV/AIDS, to enable them to learn a skilled trade and become self-supporting.
This really is a fantastic project. You get rid of old and unwanted tools and this equipment really can change lives. We hope to collect a full pallet load of spades, hoes, forks, trowels etc. to give to Workaid. Your unwanted items could help families grow food to feed themselves or provide struggling farmers with the tools they need to cultivate crops for sale at market.
