Police can confirm that a 43 year old Newton Stewart man was arrested on Friday 8 April 2011 in connection with the death of Wendy May Kelly. He will be held in police custody and will appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday 11 April on charges of Culpable Homicide and Assault.

Wendy Kelly, a 32 year old mum of three, was found in an unconscious and unresponsive condition at a house in Hillview Terrace, York Road, Newton Stewart on 17 May 2010. She was taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where she died later that day. Cause of death was attributed to a head injury.

This arrest follows a lengthy police inquiry. Detective Inspector Mark Hollis said, “I am satisfied that my team have conducted a very thorough and detailed investigation in relation to this death. The inquiry has been very complex and it has taken a great deal of time and investment to uncover a large amount of very relevant information about Wendy’s lifestyle, her movements, and the circumstances which led to her death.”

“We have been liaising closely with Wendy’s family throughout this inquiry to assist them through what must be a very stressful time. We are grateful for the patience and support they have given to us, and are also thankful for the support and cooperation of the Newton Stewart public.”
