Wigtownshire Women’s Aid (WWA) was established 25 years ago. WWA provides support to women and children affected by domestic abuse. Their anniversary will be marked on Wednesday 22 August 2012 with an Anniversary Open Day in WWA Stranraer office.
WWA is a Member of the Dumfries And Galloway Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women Partnership (DAVAWP) whose main aim is to work towards the elimination of violence against women and children, which includes domestic abuse. Other members of the DAVAWP include Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, Dumfries and Galloway Council, NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Prison Service, Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Women’s Aid, and South West Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre.
Deputy Chief Constable and DAVAWP Chair Mike McCormick said: “WWA is a key Member of the DAVAWP and plays a vital role in supporting women and children who are currently living or have previously lived with domestic abuse. I’d like to congratulate all the WWA Staff for their hard work and tireless effort in tackling domestic abuse in the West of the region.”
