Bank of Scotland Dumfries branch closed for 2nd day

The High Street branch of the Bank of Scotland has faced a catastrophic server problem yesterday, resulting in being unable to process any transactions through its bank teller points or night safe facility. A spokesperson for the bank said earlier today that the problem is being rectified, through the installation of a new server, but that the branch will remain unable to process any transactions for much of the rest of today.

It is hoped that the situation will be remedied later in the business day today, but there’s no guarantee, according to bank staff. There have been angry scenes outside the branch, at 91 High Street, Dumfries, as customers were informed of the difficulties. One local business, which has deposited two night safe lodgments over the past two days, was told they would not be processed until tomorrow and that any lodgments today should be made through the night safe to also be processed tomorrow.

The High Street branch is the only Bank of Scotland branch in Dumfries, so customers desperate to carry out banking operations, need to travel to Annan (17 miles), Castle Douglas (19 miles) or Thornhill (15 miles).
