Next phase of roadworks begins this weekend on Buccleuch Street Bridge, Dumfries

The next phase of works on Buccleuch Street bridge, Dumfries will start this weekend, 9 and 10 July.

The existing surface will be planed off in preparation of the new surface being laid the following weekend. A temporary road closure and diversion will be in operation on both Saturday and Sunday of the next two weekends and then on Sundays 24 and 31 July.

During these closures access will be available for traffic heading into the town centre. Outward bound traffic will be diverted along the Whitesands, St Michael’s Bridge Road, Pleasance Avenue and New Abbey Road.

From Monday to Friday, the bridge will be opened and both ends of the bridge will be controlled by temporary traffic lights. During this period traffic will be running on a temporary surface, with raised manholes, and drivers should take care when crossing the bridge. Delays to the travelling public will be unavoidable, particularly at the weekends in the St Michael’s Bridge area. Drivers should, where possible, avoid the area.

The recent water main works will also continue to progress during the week along Galloway Street/Laurieknowe and will also result in some delays.

The Buccleuch Street works have created a deal of local disquiet, particularly being scheduled for the height of the tourist season. If you have a comment opinion in relation to the works, please do let us know.
