Police in Dumfries recently donated 19 found bicycles in varying conditions to the Alcohol and Drugs Support (ADS) Befriending Project.
The bicycles which have been handed in to the police as found property were in various state of disrepair. All have been thoroughly checked and every attempt has been made to identify the previous owner.
Superintendent Galloway, Divisional Commander states “The bicycles that have been donated would normally go to auction or be scrapped. We have made every attempt to identify previous owners but unfortunately this has proved unsuccessful.
“We are delighted to be involved in this project as we recognise that some of the group may have had previous substance misuse problems and may require assistance to become involved in new activities and diversion projects”
The bicycles are to be donated to ADS befriending project. The project will repair and maintain the bicycles and use them for various activities in the Stewartry area.
Hazel Thompson , Befriending Service Manager states “ We are thrilled that the police have agreed to donate the bicycles. The benefits of the service users involved in the befriending project will be two fold. The fitness activity will obviously improve their physical health and well being. This will also encourage the recovery process by having other activities to take part in.”
