Man admits Housing and Council Tax Benefit fraud totalling £9,588

On 2 February, the Sheriff at Dumfries ordered a man to carry out 160 hours of Community Service following an investigation by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Benefit Fraud Team.
David McEwan, aged 49, of Johnstonebank Cottages, Ecclefechan admitted that he obtained benefit which he was not entitled to, by failing to disclose that he and his wife had pensions and also that his wife was working.
The overpayment of £9588 was from April 2006 to January 2010, and is recoverable in full.
